The 200โ€™s Internship

The internship program aims to provide young Mexican professionals with an opportunity to broaden their cultural and professional experience in support of strengthening the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States.

During the program, young professionals participate in a three-month cultural and professional training program in Washington, D.C., working in various companies, consulting firms, think tanks, research centers, and other institutions. Participants will experience the cultural ties between our countries through weekly conferences organized by the Foundation and through their living experience in Washington, D.C.

The first edition, in 2023, included 15 interns from the State of Chihuahua; the second edition includes 25 interns from the states of Chihuahua and Yucatรกn. This year, every Friday we will host a study session at SAIS University, generously sponsored by Fundaciรณn Coppel.

Why the 200's?

The 200โ€™s Internship Program celebrates the two-hundred anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the United States and seeks participants to carry on the torch of such an important and mutually beneficial relationship. In honor of that mission, they are nicknamed the 200โ€™s. Additionally, the name highlights the uniqueness of Mexicans living alongside the US-Mexico border, who 100% assimilate the dynamic and lifestyle of both Mexico and the United States, resulting in a 200%.

2024 Generation

2023 Generation

The 2023 generation of internships in Washington, D.C. was carried out in collaboration with the Government of the State of Chihuahua. Fifteen young professionals had the exciting opportunity to expand their professional experience in international institutions.

Each week, the #200s met with key players involved in the U.S.-Mexico bilateral relationship. Our interns embarked on a visit to New York City, where they had meaningful conversations with people from the Mexican Consulate. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Consulate team for their hospitality!

They participated in a discussion with David Zablodowsky, exploring the dynamic role of the Mexican Business Sector in the United States.

The group had the pleasure of conversing with Consul Rafael Laveaga from the Mexican Consulate in Washington DC, gaining valuable insights into the impactful work of Mexican consulates in the US.

The Mexican Embassy in DC warmly welcomed #The200s, providing them with firsthand insights into the Mexican government's efforts in political, congressional, and economic affairs. This visit further strengthened bilateral relations, and we are grateful for their hospitality!

An iconic experience awaited our 200s program interns as they explored the historic Capitol building. Immersed in its rich history, they gained a deeper understanding of the intricate workings behind the scenes. The 200s embarked on an enriching visit to the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America and the Caribbean. They delved into the organization's advocacy efforts for business development in the United States and the Americas, fostering valuable global partnerships.

A thought-provoking conversation unfolded with Carin Zissis, Editor-in-Chief of ASCOA Online. She shared her remarkable career journey, insights from her time in Mexico, and extensive coverage of Latin America, providing our interns with invaluable perspectives. The 200s engaged in discussions about their firsthand experiences with the bilateral relationship at the US-Mexico border, as the 2024 elections in both countries loom closer. A visit to The Wilson Center led to a meeting with Lila Abed, Deputy Director of the Mexico Institute. Engaging with their research on critical topics such as gender violence, supply chain integration, migration, and border infrastructure, the 200s expanded their knowledge and understanding.
